San Antonio Film Festival update!~By Kyle

Simply . . .  awesome! For the first time in the eight year history of the Festival, you could view the ceremony online, and the powerful, emotional, and encouraging scene at the end when the best of festival winner was announced was SO cool. The winner of the Festival was a surprise: a documentary called Dropbox. I don't think a single person suspected that Dropbox could win. Even the producer was too shocked to speak at first, saying only, "I only had one speech prepared (just in case he won the best documentary award)." Looking at the trailer for the film, though, I am so glad it won! The young filmmaker, 22, was clearly emotional about receiving the reward and gave all the glory to God for it. The scene culminated in the audience giving him a standing ovation and the Christian heroes present at the Festival like Doug Philips, Kevin Swanson, and R.C. Sproul Jr. praying for him. I don't think a single one of us here in the Bowes' household didn't have tears in our eyes at some point. Simply awesome! I don't know if they will have a video recording of the festival, but if they do, everyone that reads this should watch the end of the Festival at least. You will be glad you did!

Also, as predicted, Return to the Hiding Place won best full-length motion picture. Surprisingly, it also won the audience choice award, leaving The Lost Medallion out of any of the serious awards (I think The Lost Medallion won best music score). I had counted on The Lost Medallion to win audience choice because of some of the mature content in Retun to the Hiding Place.

So, the 2013 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival must sees are:

Dropbox (winner of best of festival)
Return to the Hiding Place (winner of best motion picture and audience choice award, and runner up for best of festival)
The lost Medallion (in select theaters in March) (runner up for best picture and audience choice award)

  1. We were able to go to the Festival at the last minute thanks to our friends at VF! It was great! The boys went on Friday and the whole family went Saturday. We didn't stay for the awards because we were spent (especially the little people). I saw both the Lost Medallion and Return to the Hiding Place, they were EXCELLENT! You need to start planning now to come here for the festival next year! It would be a pretty cheap trip since you have housing, food and transportation all covered :)

    Miss you all!
